It is never too late to learn - Atikunmi!
The Regional Literacy Program "It is never too late to learn - Atikunmi" seeks to reduce the illiteracy rate and strengthen the capacities of the adult population. This joint initiative of the Regional Government of Cusco, the Education Development Management, promoted by the International Cooperation Office and the Swedish Dispurse Foundation since 2019, also has the active participation of local governments, Local Education Management Units and Alternative Basic Education Centers in the region.
Atikunmi uses tablets and Dispurse's literacy methodology, based on its FOCUS application and pedagogical materials. This community-based approach focuses on providing education to people in rural and high Andean areas who previously had no access to it. The CEBAs play a crucial role, being trained in the methodology to implement the program, adapting the training according to the learning and knowledge of the students.
The first results in 2023, with the CEBAs Uriel García and Clorinda Matto de Turner, with more than 100 students in the districts of Saylla and Poroy, have served as a reference for expansion at the regional level. In 2024, Atikunmi will focus on the provinces of Cusco, Quispicanchi, Paruro and Chumbivilcas, working closely with local authorities, educational authorities and CEBA teams to ensure official certification and educational continuity for students.
