The event organized by Es Hoy, DVV International and Dispurse Foundation highlighted the joint efforts of companies, municipalities, educational institutions and civil society to close the educational gaps in youth and adults. In a context where 1 in 3 people in Peru have not completed their basic education, this event highlighted the importance of education as a tool for transformation.
Stories such as those of Maria Vera, a 54-year-old mother, and Abel Pumaleque, a 47-year-old tile artisan, represent inspiring examples of perseverance. María postponed her studies for decades to take care of her children and, upon finishing high school, feels empowered and with renewed self-esteem. Abel, motivated to improve his job opportunities, not only completed his basic school education, but now dreams of studying at university with his children, demonstrating that age is not a barrier to continuing to learn.
The event “Rewriting Stories: The Transformative Power of Youth and Adult Education” included a space for reflection on the importance of youth and adult education in Peru, through a panel with representatives from the public, private and civil society sectors.
During the ceremony, awards were given to various personalities and organizations that have worked to close this educational gap. Among those honored were Jaime Mantilla Silva, mayor of the District Municipality of Los Baños del Inca, and Lizardo Puma Llanos, director of the Municipal Community School of Andahuaylillas, for his support to local educational programs. CEBA directors and companies such as Grupo Rocío, Agrícola La Candelaria, UPC and Danper were also recognized for their contribution to the educational development of adults in various regions of the country.
Finally, the event culminated with the symbolic graduation of a group of students from Es Hoy's Epa! program and the Literacy and Community School programs of Dispurse Foundation.
The success stories and awards reflect the transformative impact that can be achieved when the public, private and civil society sectors work hand in hand to provide educational opportunities to those most in need.

In commemoration of International Literacy Day, Dispurse Foundation joined the awareness parade held in the city of Cajamarca. This event brought together students, teachers, organizations and local authorities to highlight the importance of literacy in personal and community development.
María Quispe Ito is a 51-year-old artisan who knits hats, gloves and booties with sheep's wool and sells them in the Plaza de Armas of her district Coata, in the Puno region. As a child she was forced to work, so she was taken away from school by her parents when she was very young.
In a significant step towards the promotion of youth and adult education, Dispurse Foundation has signed a cooperation agreement with DVV International, the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (Deutscher Volkshochschul-Verband eV).
