In Peru, 9.6 million people above 15 years old have not completed high school and in several regions and more than 50% are functionally illiterate. (ENAHO 2017).
At Dispurse we are convinced that being able to read, write and count is not just a human right but also the key to being able to live an independent life and be a positive force that can participate, influence and help for sustainable democratic social development.
We are a Swedish foundation whose purpose is to fight poverty through education. We are politically and religiously independent.
Our work began in 1993 thanks to our founder Gert Johansson's vision and initiative. Gert was convinced that education is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle in order for the individual to have the tools and the power to get out of poverty.
In 2017, after 5 years of development, we launched Focus, our digital tool (app), which teaches people who lack basic literacy to read, write and count without the help of teachers and without the need for internet connection.
Our education offers people the opportunity to develop a basic literacy that is functional and digital through a teaching characterized by a strong resource perspective, meaningfulness, usefulness and mutual respect.
